The History of the Florida Theatre Bunny:
Back in 1927, The Florida Theatre opened and one of the many features included a nursery. Parents could drop off their children while they watched a movie or danced on the rooftop garden knowing the children were somewhere safe in the building. The walls were decorated with animals and pictures for the children to look at while playing.
Around 2013, a pink bunny was discovered during a wall repair and it was decided to let the bunny live as a memento to the old nursery. By this time, the nursery had become known as the Member Lounge. A member-exclusive area with private bars and bathrooms. Few years later it was decided that our Members needed a bigger, better space and plans were launched to move the Members Lounge to a new area.
The one pink bunny remains on the back wall of the Barnett Room today. An emblem commemorating how The Florida Theatre has rejuvenated but never forgotten its historical impact which spans almost 100 years. To honor the journey of this one symbol, the bunny's outline was used to create a special logo for Membership Merchandise.
