The History of the Florida Theatre Bunny:
Back in 1927, The Florida Theatre opened and one of the many features included a nursery. Parents could drop off their children while they watched a movie or danced on the rooftop garden knowing the children were somewhere safe in the building. The walls were decorated with animals and pictures for the children to look at while playing. The nursery was operated by Margaret Land until 1952.
When The Florida Theatre reopened in the 80s, the former nursery was converted to The Barnett Room--a space to be used for catering, as well as, special meetings or events. One pink bunny survived the remodeling and was left as a memento to the room's previous use. Shortly after Numa Saisselin became President of the Florida Theatre, the Barnett Room had another makeover and became known as the Member Lounge. A member-exclusive area with private bars and bathrooms. Five years later it was decided that our Members needed a bigger, better space and plans were launched to move the Members Lounge from the Barnett Room to a new area. With the help of Auld & White Constructors, Numa created The Remedy Lounge and the Barnett Room became a space that all Patrons could use while seeing a performance.
The one pink bunny remains on the back wall of the Barnett Room today. An emblem commemorating how The Florida Theatre has rejuvenated but never forgotten its historical impact which spans almost 100 years. To honor the journey of this one symbol, the bunny's outline was used to create a special logo for Membership Merchandise. because our Members also care about The Florida Theatre and the memories shared here.
