As part of the public health response to contain the COVID-19 virus, the historic, nonprofit Florida Theatre is closed.
Even though the Theatre has no income at this time, we have committed to keeping our 22 full-time employees employed for as long as we can.
However, our part-time “show workers” are already feeling the effects of our shutdown. Because there are no shows, our stagehands, bartenders, security and box office workers have no work.
The average gross wages for these Florida Theatre show employees are about $6,000 a night. Already 24 shows that have postponed or cancelled. That’s $144,000 in wages already lost, and in all likelihood, there is more to come.
These are the workers that you come into contact with the most at performances, and these are the workers who put up and take down the shows that you enjoy.
If you are able, please click the button below to contribute to a relief fund for these workers, and the Florida Theatre will make sure that all funds raised through this campaign get to the people who need it.
We are happy to receive donations of any amount, and anyone who contributes $50 or more will receive a pair of complimentary tickets to a Summer Movie Classics screening (announcing soon) of their choice this summer.
We appreciate your support of this effort.
